Piggies and a Princess

Anna has had a lot of fun with the guinea pigs since she's been home. So has Alyssa.

She has them all over the house. It's a good thing these are social creatures, because otherwise they'd be socialized to death.

Even Kara likes them.

Today I put in a complete new kitchen in 30 minutes. It keeps the food in one end of the cage and the rest of the cage stays clean.

Guinea pigs poop "at the speed of light" and their innards work like a conveyor belt, with the food going in and coming out at the same time. This way, ALL of the messes stay in one little section of the cage.

Tonight we had a big community party for Jessie Hall. You may have heard of her - she's a little girl who had a hemispherectomy to help stop seizures, and her story has been on the national news several times.

Anyway, she lives in the little town next to ours, and she's been home and having a super recovery. The party was organized by a lady in our ward.

Anna decided to get her face painted.

I don't think I could keep up with 5 children and a couple of guinea pigs! haha You're doing great.

BTW- a good way to organize the cage- very inventive! Hopefully the guinea pigs will apprciate you're efforts. ;)

Your girls look much older these days. It always amazes me how kids seem to grow leaps and bounds over the summer months.

My son would love to have a guinea pig. But I won't let him have one (I know, mean Mom!) Maybe it has to do with the conveyor belt dilemma (and the stink it will generate).

The garland is beautiful! I can see how you had to think twice about letting her wear it, but the fact that she wanted to, man, good for her!

Sounds like things are going well -- your girls are home, your wife is home, the poop and the food are separate -- does it get any better than that?

Canoe-Paddling Polynesian Guys

We have finally hung a picture on the wall here in our house. The fact that this is a blog-worthy event eighteen months after moving in is, I admit, rather pathetic. But it is also very exciting. I finally feel like we are really moving in. Slowly but surely we're picking away at the projects that need to be done, and (for now) avoiding the temptation to take on any new ones. This picture is called Hoe Kama Kani , which means "paddle with the wind." We found this picture at a home show in Honolulu while we were students, and I just fell in love with it. I stood there and stared at the picture for quite some time, but I simply couldn't justify the $140 price. The salesman told us that they had a smaller print available for much less, but they had sold out at the show. We could look at it if we came by the studio the next week. My lunch with Michael Dorn. For several years, I was the Utah Wing Leader for Angel Flight West, a charity flying organization that donates flights in private aircraft for people who need medical attention. Each October, the Wing Leaders would get together with the board of directors in Long Beach, California, for a Wing Leader Planning Day. The first year I attended, actor and pilot Michael Dorn was on the board. I didn't recognize him at first, but as soon as he spoke, there was no doubt who he was.
