Happy Independence Day, USA

It's late, and I should be sleeping. But I know you're dying to know about our day. Here it is, in short paragraphs and pictures.

We went to the Santa Fe Pancakes on the Plaza for breakfast. Due to extremely long lines, we did not actually eat pancakes for breakfast, but went to a little restaurant just off the Plaza.

Kara and Anna found jewelry galore that they wanted. They only bought a couple pair of earrings.

We went to the famous cathedral in Santa Fe. Anna enjoyed taking pictures.

We cruised around the various shops. Here we are with our friend Richard, who guided us through our adventure today.

No Fourth of July is complete without a stop at the Christmas store.

In the afternoon, we ate pizza and toured the Georgia O'Keeffe museum. They don't allow cameras.

We found a park, because Alyssa asked us to. Four times. Each hour. Starting at 6:00 am.

The park had these spinning shamrock things that got going really fast just using gravity and most likely a rider's attempt to balance. Nobody fell, but everyone got dizzy.

We drove up the hill and watched the fireworks in town. We were a couple of miles away, but that allowed us to miss the traffic.

Carly tells us we'll be driving for 9 1/2 hours tomorrow. We'll see.

What a full day you had! I sat in a book booth and sweated so much, I thought I'd lost 15 pounds. It turns out I gained 5. I'm sure it didn't help that I sat right next to a bake sale booth and at the end they were selling heaped plates of baked goods for just a dollar. Too good to pass up, no?

I think that you should have developed more of a story line around this 'Richard' character.

We have finally hung a picture on the wall here in our house. The fact that this is a blog-worthy event eighteen months after moving in is, I admit, rather pathetic. But it is also very exciting. I finally feel like we are really moving in. Slowly but surely we're picking away at the projects that need to be done, and (for now) avoiding the temptation to take on any new ones. This picture is called Hoe Kama Kani , which means "paddle with the wind." We found this picture at a home show in Honolulu while we were students, and I just fell in love with it. The salesman told us that they had a smaller print available for much less, but they had sold out at the show. We could look at it if we came by the studio the next week. Lyme Disease Awareness: Kara's Story

With May being Lyme Disease Awareness Month, I want to share my “story” in hopes that someone will benefit from it – either by letting you know you are not alone or by helping you or someone you love receive a correct diagnosis. I have divided it into chapters so if you need to take a break, you can easily find where you left off. Truthfully, this is only a small snapshot of what I went through.    Chapter 1: The Beginning Up until 1999, I was an active, busy young woman. As many of you know, I grew up in Hawaii, in the quaint little village of Laie . Many of you also know that I have been working away at my version of the Great American Novel for the last little while. Due to a bout of homesickness brought on by a cruel Utah winter, my story is set in (surprise) Laie. It was also in Laie that I learned to love the great taste of guava - the same taste I am about to share with a few lucky people in the form of my Guavalicious apple butter.
