Do Not Insult The Chef

If someone is willing to rise early in the morning and pack warm food into a hand-washed, preheated thermos, it would be bad form to leave that food in the thermos untouched. Three days in a row.

Do not, under any circumstances, refer to that food as "disgusting."

That's it! Bread and water* for the rest of the week!

*Note to Texas DFPS: Bread will include meat, fish, or legume protein. There will also be some kind of fruit. And maybe a cookie.

Are you supposed to preheat those things? I never do. My poor baby. His food probably tastes gross. How do you preheat it? Sorry, I'm dumb about those kinds of things. No wonder he didn't want to take lunch on Wednesday (would have been the 3rd day in a row) He even tried enchiladas for the first time at school. Seriously, how do you preheat those things?

I put the teapot on the stove before I get into the shower. When I get out, I pour the boiling water into the thermoses. Then I start heating the food. By the time the food is warm, the thermoses are nice and toasty.

I don't do this for soups, as by lunch time the soup is still too hot for their tender little mouths. But everything else gets the boiling water pre-treatment.
Sorry. I'm still trying to figure this out. I'm a major lamo in the kitchen. You put water right into the container? And then do you dump it out? My son likes his chicken nuggets in there. I guess I would dry it after I dumped the water out. Right?

You've got it - fill the thermos with boiling water, then put the lid on and let it sit in there for 15 minutes or so. Then dump the water out. For something like nuggets you will want to dry it.

Then put the hot nuggets in. If there's a big air space above the nuggets, I try and fill that with the foil I warmed the nuggets on.

The less air space the warmer the food is when lunchtime rolls around.
Great tips. Thanks. I think he'll enjoy lunch a lot more now that I know what I'm doing.
