Ice Storm! (results may vary)


When I started this blog just over two years ago (Happy belated Blogaversary!) one of the first things I wrote about was an ice storm that came, delayed our flight to Utah, and closed schools while we were gone. (It was not as bad as the storm pictured above - that photo was poached off the internet.)

Well, we're looking at an ice storm coming in again tonight. We'll see how this one turns out. The forecasts are similar to the storm two years ago.

I made a run to the store to pick up a few things we might need. Hopefully power doesn't get interrupted, as we have electric heat and, unless it becomes a matter of life or death, the fireplace is not an option.

Also, power out and no school could be a recipe for disaster.

I'll keep you posted. If I can.

I saw those photos in an e-mail--some place in greenland I think. Can you even imagine? Didn't you lose shingles last time? I hope you don't have to resort to the fireplace. Let us know you're okay once it passes.

Wow, you have such interesting weather. You go from Balmy 80 degrees to Ice Storm... Notice I said interesting, not fun. Stay warm.

Canoe-Paddling Polynesian Guys

We have finally hung a picture on the wall here in our house. The fact that this is a blog-worthy event eighteen months after moving in is, I admit, rather pathetic. But it is also very exciting. I finally feel like we are really moving in. Slowly but surely we're picking away at the projects that need to be done, and (for now) avoiding the temptation to take on any new ones. This picture is called Hoe Kama Kani , which means "paddle with the wind." We found this picture at a home show in Honolulu while we were students, and I just fell in love with it. I stood there and stared at the picture for quite some time, but I simply couldn't justify the $140 price. The salesman told us that they had a smaller print available for much less, but they had sold out at the show. We could look at it if we came by the studio the next week. The Liar's Game - Post 500

For several years, I was the Utah Wing Leader for Angel Flight West, a charity flying organization that donates flights in private aircraft for people who need medical attention. Each October, the Wing Leaders would get together with the board of directors in Long Beach, California, for a Wing Leader Planning Day. The first year I attended, actor and pilot Michael Dorn was on the board. I didn't recognize him at first, but as soon as he spoke, there was no doubt who he was.
